The Georgia Social Investment Fund (GSIF) was established by the Georgian Government in 1997 to improve the living standards of low income groups among the Georgian population and strengthen institutions at the local level. To this end, GSIF finances rehabilitation in basic social and economic infrastructure, promotes community outreach, and local capacity building. A first phase, largely financed through an IDA credit, is coming to an end by end-December 2002, and a second project, GSIF II, is under preparation
